Why Newspapers Matter for LLC Publication

NY LLC Law Section 206 requires every LLC to publish a notice of formation in newspapers designated by the county clerk. This is not optional — your LLC cannot obtain a Certificate of Publication without it.

Not any newspaper qualifies. Only newspapers on the Westchester County Clerk's approved list can be used for LLC publication. Using an unapproved newspaper means your publication does not count.

Two newspapers are required: typically one daily and one weekly, both serving Westchester County. Publication runs for 6 consecutive weeks in each.

Choosing the wrong newspaper means starting the entire process over. Our direct relationships with the designated newspapers eliminate this risk.

How Newspaper Designation Works

The Westchester County Clerk maintains the official list of newspapers approved for LLC publication notices. This designation carries legal weight — only newspapers on this list satisfy the publication requirement.

To be designated, newspapers must meet specific circulation and publication frequency requirements set by the county. These standards ensure that publication notices reach a meaningful audience within Westchester County.

The designation list can change. We monitor it continuously and maintain direct relationships with every newspaper on the current list. This means we know immediately if a designation is added or removed.

When you use our service, you don't need to worry about newspaper selection, verification, or submission. We handle all of it — from placing the notice to collecting notarized affidavits from each newspaper. See how we use these newspapers in our process.

Newspaper Questions

Can I choose which newspapers my LLC is published in?

Per NY LLC Law Section 206, newspapers are designated by the county clerk. We publish in the newspapers on the current Westchester County Clerk-approved list. You do not need to choose — the clerk's designation determines the newspapers.

How often does the designated newspaper list change?

Changes are infrequent. The Westchester County Clerk updates the list as needed. We maintain direct relationships with all designated newspapers and monitor any changes to ensure your publication is always placed in currently approved outlets.

What if a designated newspaper stops publishing?

We adapt immediately. Our direct relationships and continuous monitoring mean we are among the first to know of any changes and can adjust your publication accordingly. This has not affected any Westchester County publication we have handled.
